What the heck is
Bearded Broome?

This fundraising entity arose from the concept of “No Shave November”- a national event in which law enforcement officers are allowed to let their facial hair grow rather than follow the normal requirement of maintaining a clean-shaven face. This change in appearance is meant to create a talking point to bring awareness to the fundraising cause. Local officers decided that they wanted all funds raised to stay local and benefit our community rather than being dispersed nationally and hence, Bearded Broome was born. Thanks to the efforts of these officers, 100% of the proceeds from this November’s Bearded Broome fundraiser will be going directly to CHOW.

About Chow

Hunger is a larger problem in our area than many people realize.  1 out of 4 children and 1 out of 7 individuals may not know where their next meal is coming from.  CHOW is a local food banking organization that aims to stop hunger by distributing over 2.2 million meals per year to those in need. $1 donated to CHOW = 5 meals distributed in the community.  To learn more about CHOW visit their website here.

FAQ

Can I participate if I’m not in Law Enforcement?
Absolutely! While Bearded Broome was created by law enforcement officers, our mission is to bring together law enforcement and the diverse and vibrant community of Broome County to support neighbors in need. We encourage anyone interested in participating to make a donation or create a fundraising profile!

What if I can’t, or don’t want to, grow a beard?
We know that growing a beard is not an option for everyone, whether due to workplace requirements, not being able to grow facial hair, or just not wanting to! If you are interested in participating as a fundraiser without growing a beard you can make a small change to your appearance that will initiate a conversation. That could be as simple as wearing a unique tie, tying a bandana around your wrist, or painting your nails an eye-catching color!

What is Causevox?
Causevox is the official fundraising platform of Bearded Broome. BeardedBroome.com staff can assist in setting up, adding offline donations, and answering questions you may have about Causevox.

How do I register my group?
Registering a large group is easy! Email us at beardedbroome@gmail.com and we’ll create a team page for you.

Where does the money go?
100% of the proceeds go to support the programs and services of Broome County CHOW. You can learn more about CHOW by clicking here.

How much of my donation actually goes to CHOW?
Bearded Broome is proud to be completely volunteer-run and no donated funds are used for administrative costs or salaries. The only necessary expenses associated with our fundraising are for transaction fees- 3% per transaction to the fundraising platform (Causevox) and 2.2% +$0.30 per transaction to the credit card processing company (Stripe). When making your donation we offer the option to add an additional 5% to your donation to cover transaction fees resulting in all but pennies of your donation going directly to CHOW!

Can I submit offline donations?
Offline donations can be mailed directly to the Broome County CHOW offices for processing. Please mail them to the address below with your fundraising page name and contact info, so we can count the donation towards your fundraising goal and so we can contact you should we have any questions.
