What the heck is
Bearded Broome?
Bearded Broome is a local fundraising organization inspired by the national entity, “No Shave November.” Participants are encouraged to forgo shaving for the month of November with the goal of this change in appearance creating a talking point to bring awareness to the fundraising cause. After participating in “No Shave November” for several years, and realizing that in addition to the organization being national, all funds raised were distributed nationally as well, our founder was inspired to create a local fundraising group that keeps all funds raised local to benefit our community and hence, Bearded Broome was born. In 2021, 100% of the $21,319 we raised went directly to CHOW. And in 2022, Bearded Broome raised $28,548, all of which went directly to CHOW. About Chow
Hunger is a larger problem in our area than many people realize. 1 out of 4 children and 1 out of 7 individuals may not know where their next meal is coming from. CHOW is a local food banking organization that aims to stop hunger by distributing over 2.2 million meals per year to those in need. $1 donated to CHOW = 5 meals distributed in the community. FAQ
What if I can’t, or don’t want to, grow a beard?
We know that growing a beard is not an option for everyone, whether due to workplace requirements, not being able to grow facial hair, or just not wanting to! If you are interested in participating as a fundraiser without growing a beard you can make a small change to your appearance that will initiate a conversation. We here at Bearded Broome suggest wearing something orange, the color associated with hunger awareness. Something as simple as wearing an orange tie or painting your nails orange are two great ways to bring attention to this cause! Worldwide Sport Supply has generously donated custom T-shirts with our slogan #Feedthe1in4; bringing awareness to the fact that 1 in 4 children in Broome County don’t know where their next meal will come from. Shirts are available here with all proceeds going directly towards this year’s fundraising efforts!

How much of my donation actually goes to CHOW?
Bearded Broome is proud to be completely volunteer-run and no donated funds are used for administrative costs or salaries. The only necessary expenses associated with our fundraising are for transaction fees- 3% per transaction to the fundraising platform (Causevox) and 2.2% +$0.30 per transaction to the credit card processing company (Stripe). When making your donation we offer the option to add an additional 5% to your donation to cover transaction fees resulting in all but pennies of your donation going directly to CHOW!
Can I submit offline donations?
Offline donations can be mailed directly to the Broome County CHOW offices for processing. Please mail checks to the address below with the check made out to CHOW and “Bearded Broome” and your fundraising page name on the memo line, so we can count the donation towards your fundraising goal and so we can contact you should we have any questions.
